Project "Farm-Eating Game" Announcement - Alpha Version Released!!

Project "Farm-Eating Game"

You're the T-Rex, and you gotta eat 'em all!

I won't keep you reading long, but hopefully you will take a good amount of time to play our project, observe and examine your experience, and let us know juicy deets afterwards. It'll be much appreciated!

In our last blog post, we said we'd be working on "MVP" projects, creating games at their minimum with a bit of polish, and get them done within a month and move on.

On August 7th, we came up with a list of simple but fun game ideas, narrowed down our favourites, and went with the first on our list. We then planned out how we were going create it, keeping time and project management in mind, and then we set off running.

Our deadline is Sunday September 10th, so we've only got just over a week! On that day, we're dropping whatever we've got and moving onto the next thing - after a short break, debrief, and planning for the next project of course.

We need testers!

For us to make a good product, we need your feedback. As much feedback as we can get. And if that's only a million frustrations -- brilliant! (Though positive comments are nice, too...)

The current working version in all its mid-stage glory

We've tested it over and over ourselves and invited some close family and friends to do the same, gathering input and modifying the game as we go.

It's vital that we get lots of good feedback from many sources, as we want to learn how to build future successful projects for you guys!

We wondered for a while whether to make the player a farmer or a chick.
Then we settled on a t-rex, that way it's not super morbid eating dogs and horses and things :)

You can download (Windows and Mac versions) "Farm-Eating Game" alpha v1.0 here:

Please take the time to report on thoughts, struggles, likes, dislikes, recommendations, things you'd like to see, and anything you can think of that is constructive. At least 3 things would be incredibly helpful! You can comment your thoughts on the page in that link above, or directly on this blog page in the comments section below. OR even on the facebook post you probably got here on, that works, too.

Thank you, and good luck! We really look forward to reading about your experience.

  1. If there is a way to allow the player to control the speed of the rex, that would be great. I felt like I kept trying to make good turns to get the chicks, and I would just go in circles because of the lack of speed control. Another idea would be to display the level needed to eat a particular size of animal. There were a few times where the chick or chicken looked just a bit smaller than the rex, but I would get eaten. That way I'm not picking a fight with a bigger fish, if ya know what I mean. And the last thing that I noticed was that the eat box for the rex was sometimes a bit small with very small animals.

    1. Great input, very much appreciated! We and other testers have noticed those things too, they seem to be the most common issues people face...
